Communications (Cont'd)

When the request is of a non-emergent nature or pre-scheduled ambulance service, our Call Takers will assist callers in determining the level of care necessary, verify medical necessity and assist in arranging payment methods.

Our state-of-the-art Communications Center dispatches and monitors our fleet through the use of a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This CAD system is used to manage an environment that is constantly changing. Each request for assistance received is assigned a unique identification number through which every stage of the request is monitored and recorded in the systems database. This information gives us the ability to measure response performance in a quantifiable manner. From this information, plans for deployment and availability are created.

Our Communications Center operates with redundant back up systems in place. Some of these systems are mirrored computer servers, an Uninterrupted Power Supply and a natural gas generator to insure uninterrupted service.

Not only does our Communications Center maintain communication with responding units and insure privacy of radio transmissions via an advanced radio system, it also utilizes a 24-hour translation service that offers interpreters of 140 languages. This gives our Call Takers and Dispatchers the ability to conference an interpreter with the patient to determine his or her needs and initiate a proper response.

We have also recently developed a CAD Data-Link with local government agencies, which gives the Communications Center the ability to receive data almost instantaneously from these agencies with pertinent response information and to dispatch units accordingly.
