EARN WHILE YOU LEARN… to be a pre-hospital care provider
Rural/Metro Medical Services – WNY has a unique opportunity for full-time employment while we train you for a rewarding career in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Service.
The eligible candidate will be hired as a full-time employee and compensated a training (minimum) wage while in attendance at our NYS EMT-Basic certification course. There is no cost for the course and all required course books will be provided. Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining their NYS certification, the employee is promoted to that of EMT-B with the commensurate pay rate, which is currently $10.00/hr and placed with a field mentor. We are looking for candidates who have a strong work ethic and a desire to pursue advancement to Paramedic. We are currently accepting applicants for our NYS Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certification course. The next opportunity is scheduled to begin on: April 26, 2010.
Qualifying for a seat in one of our programs is as easy as 1 ... 2 ... 3:
1) Attend one of the following Open Enrollment Sessions: (Business casual attire, shoes with non-slip soles - NO elevated heels as you will be participating in a lifting skill assessment, written math & English comprehension test and initial interview)
- April 7, 2010 at 9 AM
- April 8, 2010 at 6 PM
- April 9, 2010 at 3 PM
- April 10, 2010 at 9 AM
All sessions are held at our TRAINING CENTER, which is located at: 60 Clyde Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215 (past gate on left): online map.
2) You MUST provide proof of HS graduation or GED, possess a valid NYS Drivers License, and have completed Training Application at the time of Open Enrollment
3) Successfully complete the pre-hire screening process

EMT-Basic Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, the EMT Basic must demonstrate competency in:
- Patient assessment
- Trauma care
- Managing medical emergencies
- Utilizing Basic Life Support equipment
- CPR
- Airway management
- Hemorrhage control
- Fracture and spinal stabilization
- Managing environmental emergencies
- Emergency childbirth
- Use of a semi-automatic defibrillator
EMT-Basic Position Description
The eligible candidate must at a minimum:
- Attend one of the open enrollment sessions
- Posses a valid NYS Drivers License with a good driving history
- Not convicted of or currently charged with any misdemeanors or felonies
- Successfully complete the pre-employment screening process, which consists of drug testing, and background check of both criminal and motor vehicle operation histories.
To successfully complete the NYS approved curriculum, the student must achieve and maintain a passing score on practical and written certification examinations. You must be at least 18 years of age. Have the ability to communicate verbally; via telephone and radio equipment; ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance); ability to sit stand and crawl, ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions; ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations; ability to be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights; ability to function efficiently throughout an entire work shift without interruption, ability to read English language manuals and road maps; ability to interview patient, family members, and bystanders; ability to document in writing all relevant information, ability to converse in English with co-workers and hospital staff as to status of patient.
